Just Plain Stupid

This goes beyond disgusting:
Kevin Francois gave up his lunch break to talk to his mother, but it ended up costing him the rest of the school year.

Francois, a junior at Spencer High School in Columbus, was suspended for disorderly conduct Wednesday after he was told to give up his cell phone at lunch while talking to his mother who is deployed in Iraq, he said.
Okay, maybe students using cell phones is a violation of the rules, but y'know what? I think that anyone who is, has served in or has relatives in Iraq should get a free pass -- and school administrators should pull their heads out of their asses. What's their job? Educating the students or enforcing petty, stupid rules without discretion?

But check out this disturbing quote and its source:
"They are really allowed to have those cell phones so that after band or after chorus or after the debate and practices are over they have to coordinate with the parents," said Alfred Parham, assistant principal at Spencer. "They're not supposed to use them for conversating back and forth during school because if they were allowed to do that, they could be text messaging each other for test questions."
Okay, first off -- was the kid in a classroom cheating on a test? No. Was he talking to his mother, who's ten thousand miles away? Yes. A principal with a brain would have just said, "Okay, we understand, just try not to flaunt it in front of the other students, or come to the office to call her."

But, if you haven't spotted the more disturbing fuck-up in that quote -- coming from an alleged educator -- then you must be the product of a public school education.

Conversating? For fuck's sake, a goddamn assistant principal, who's supposed to know better, used conversating in a sentence. No wonder we keep having these ridiculous, zero tolerance situations where good kids get shredded by the system that's supposed to be teaching them. Obviously, when the administrators aren't even smart enough to speak good English, they're not smart enough or educated enough to be adminstratoring.

(Heavy sigh).

The lundatics are running the asylums in our public schools.
